first harvest circle: the cauldron of creativity

Friday, July 30th 2021 from 7pm-10pm

“Make visible what, without you, might perhaps never have been seen.” -Robert Bresson

At this time of year, we celebrate the pagan holiday known as Lammas/Lughnasadh/Gwyl Awst, originating in the UK in honour of the first harvesting of wheat. The Earth Mother is expressing her abundance through her ripening grains, as well as vegetables, fruits and herbal medicines- signaling a time of plenty, abundance and strong manifesting power. The next two harvest ceremonies take place at the Fall Equinox and Samhain, which carry different themes.

This time also spans much of the length of time the sun is in fire sign Leo and earth sign Virgo. Leo enlivens our creative, playful energies and urges us to express our unique light into the world, while Virgo helps us to cultivate the skill, practicality and discernment necessary to bring our creativity down to earth. This combination of energies makes it a powerful time to create tangible expressions of our unique energy in the world.

The archetype we will be exploring is the Creatrix/Creator archetype, which rides the cusp between the Mother/Nurturer and Enchantress/Magician- An energy full of abundance, creativity, playfulness, gratitude as well as discernment.  We will also be exploring the significance of the cauldron, which has been a prominent symbol in myth representing the womb of transformation and creativity.

It is a time to let our playfulness and inspiration flow in tangible ways, and cultivate gratitude. It is also a great time reflect and acknowledge what is bearing fruit and what needs to be sacrificed or re-worked in order to thrive. We can practice exercising our creativity wisely, deciding what is sustainable, and what to let go of.

We may ask ourselves- What are we inspired to or already creating, giving life to and making real? What is bubbling in our creative cauldron? What are we harvesting now from our labours? What needs to shift in order to create more effectively or authentically? What are we grateful for?

In this small outdoor gathering in Toronto’s east end, we will discuss the energies and themes above, do some simple yet powerful embodied exercises to release creative blocks and enhance the flow of inspiration, a guided meditation to meet our inner Creatrix/Creator, and make our own beautiful mason jar collage craft to take home. I hope to see you there!
